Knowledge of coal
Coal falls mainly into three kinds: coking coal, anthracite and steam coal.
Coke is used as a fuel and as a reducing agent in smelting iron ore in a blast furnace. Usually, 1.3 ton coking coal can process 1 ton coke. Coking coal is the fuel source for steelmaking and the major additive in steel industry. Being regarded as the “main food source of steel industry”, coking coal is one of the strategically important materials in the market of raw materials around the world.
Anthracite is also called white coal or red coal, it is of high coallificaton degree, high carbon content, less-ash, lack of water and high heat. Smoke-free lump coal is mainly for fertilizer (nitrogenous fertilizer, synthetic ammonia), ceramics, forging and manufacturing industry; while fine anthracite is mainly for BF pulverized coal combustion (fine coal injection in BF includes anthracite, meager coal, lean coal and gas coal).
Steam coal can be seen in generating electricity, locomotive and boiler combustion. It is mainly used in power making; about one third of the whole coal is used to make power. Secondly for steam locomotive. This accounts for 2%. Thirdly for building materials. For example, in concrete, glass, brick and tile(10%). Fourthly it is used as fuel in industrial boilers. This part uses 20% coal. Lastly metallugury uses 1%.
